How to Build a Twitter Following for Your Business

Author: The A Team | Filed under: Social Media

Businesses are shying away from traditional marketing and utilizing social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to gain recognition.  The world is now in a place where this fact is beyond obvious.  Yet with so much competition and an eagerness to turn the invested time on such sites into profit, it may prove challenging to make an impact on the Twitter universe.

However, there is hope.  There are ways for businesses to cut through the vast world of Twitter information and build an impact as well as awareness:

Be Unique.  Some industries are undeniably crowded and it may be hard to stand out.  If you are operating in a crowded Twitter market do research on ways you can stand out among others in your industry.  Follow your competitors.  See what other companies are doing and develop a strategy that will set you apart from them.  Being unique and intriguing will help you gain followers and separate you from crowded territory.

Value. Value. Value.  Deliver value to your followers.  In a crowded market value is significant.  Value is vital and should be delivered consistently to your followers.  If they feel they are investing in something valuable they won’t unfollow you and may suggest your page to other individuals.

Be Engaging.  The best way to build a community is to engage with your followers.  If someone decides to follow you show you appreciate him or her by sending a friendly direct message thanking him or her for following you.  Be sure to engage with key followers on a regular basis.  Not only will you build a community, you’ll get noticed in the process.

Be A Resource.  Being a resource to your followers is another way to add further value to your business.  Provide information and post links that may be interesting and informing.  And position yourself as an expert.  Make your business available for questions and help those who are having problems.  You’ll be more valuable and become a trusted, reliable resource to your followers.

No Overtweeting.  Twitter is already provides an assortment of information.  Millions of tweets are sent every minute.  Don’t overdo it by overtweeting.  Tweeting too often can be viewed as annoying.  Don’t discourage potential followers or lose those currently following you by overtweeting.  Tweet ever few hours or once every hour if necessary.

Following these steps should put you and your business on the way to building a community, your brand, and a large twitter following.
