Here are some marketing tips that small businesses should incorporate to be positioned for success in the future.

The first, is to build reliable brand advocates as well as Twitter followers, blog subscribers, LinkedIn connections and Facebook Friends  to build your business. The important thing is that you have quality connections with those who are loyal to the business and the brand who will help spread your message.

The second, is to create quality content as a viable marketing tool. Social media marketing and content marketing go hand-in-hand, and it is important to add value to the online conversation and to people’s lives. The web is a cluttered place and amazing content is how you break through the noise.

The third, is to move more of your marketing budget to social media. Consumers spend more time online than ever and to reach them and stay competitive, small businesses need to have a constant presence on the social web through Facebook, Twitter and Blogs on their website.

The fourth is to track brand reputations on the social web in greater detail. Social media has allowed consumers to share their thoughts and to voice their opinions. Small-business owners need to realize the importance of actively monitoring and their reputation on the web. Make sure to update blogs, twitters, and facebooks so you show up on your consumers’ news feed every day. But make sure to share information that’s relevant and interesting.

The fifth, is to increase branded online experiences to meet diverse consumer needs. Simply having a Twitter account or Facebook page isn’t always enough. Small businesses must also offer consumers with other destinations such as a blog, LinkedIn profile, Youtube channel, Flickr profile that links back to your brand. Consumers then have a variety of choices and can decide how they want to interact with your brand, allowing you to increase your consumer base. However, don’t forget quality trumps quantity.

The sixth, is the importance of geotargeting and localized marketing. Local discount websites like Groupon and local review sites like Yelp make it easy for consumers to find deals and reviews about businesses in their neighborhoods and beyond. Creating targeted, local marketing campaigns using these popular tools will help small businesses this year, so stay in the know.

This year businesses need to experiment with a variety of online and localized marketing. It is imperative to have a marketing strategy that includes facebook management and other social networking sites to increase search engine optimization.
